CHERRY HILL, N.J. -Stand Down of South Jersey is an organization that has been helping homeless veterans in our area for more than 20 years.
Stand Down 2018 welcomed some of those veterans on Friday, September 21st, at the National Guard Armory in Cherry Hill.
The event aims to provide homeless veterans with many resources that they can use including access to health care, mental health screening, substance abuse counseling, social and legal services, religious counseling, a hot meal, a haircut, and even winter clothing.
"We take the position that if you come in here asking for help and we can help you, we're going to help you, and we help them in any way we can," said Jim Maher, chairman of Stand Down of South Jersey.
The South Jersey Stand Down event has been held annually since September 1996 and is supported by the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, but is put on entirely by volunteers.
